Meeting Point: Minamiza Theatre, 198 Nakano-cho, Shijo-dori, Yamato-oji Nishi-iru, Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto 605-0075, Japan Itinerary: Gion area, Yasaka shrine, Kodaiji, Yasaka tower, Kiyomizu temple, Pontocho, Fushimi inari shrine. We will begin the tour in the historic Gion district, a bustling entertainment area steeped in tradition. While we won’t be here at night, we’ll still share stories of this vibrant and colorful district, famous for its geisha culture. As we walk, we’ll pass the majestic Kabuki Theater and stroll through Hanami Koji Street, the heart of Gion’s tea houses. With its well-preserved medieval architecture, this area feels like stepping back into Kyoto's Edo period (1603-1868). What makes Gion so special is that it’s still a living, breathing part of Kyoto’s culture. Geisha continue to reside here, entertaining guests in the traditional teahouses to this day. A Peaceful Walk Through Higashiyama With cars largely absent, a walking tour through Higashiyama feels serene and timeless. We’ll visit the tranquil Kodaiji Temple, where the beautiful gardens will transport you to another world. Dating back to the early 17th century, the temple houses the mausoleum of two historical figures from the late 16th century – Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the "Second Great Unifier" of Japan, and his wife, Nene. You’ll have the opportunity to explore the last remaining original structure and a meticulously preserved mausoleum.
